What is Radon?
Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that which is naturally occurring and enters every home. Upstate Greenville and surrounding areas have a higher concentration of this noble gas called Radon. This is due to the geographical region which results in a greater probability of our homes, schools, and businesses being subject to poor Indoor Air Quality. Radon enters homes from soil surrounding the structure, but can also be detected in water, or even building materials.
What is the Big Concern?
Radon is the leading cause of Lung Cancer among never-smokers and smokers are subject to a much greater risk of lung damage from radon since smoking weakens our bodies defense systems. When exposed to prolonged radon gas of ONLY 4.0 pCi/l (over a lifetime), 7 in 1,000 people could results in lung cancer. Lung Cancer holds the highest number of fatalities among cancer deaths in the USA. Radon has a decay process which causes a chain of other particles to be released which can cause severe damage when/if breathed into our lungs these particles become trapped and embedded in our lungs which can cause mutations of our DNA.
